Their is an underestimation of the American People and their attention being paid to the Government Created Crises.  We know that we are all being punished for the failure of a Party to take the Whitehouse and we the People are in the cross hairs so to speak.  Walmart leaking a memo on the business, I believe has a two-fold purpose.  One: to show the Government that raising taxes hurts in a trickle down fashion, so please, please don't raise payroll taxes.  You can tell they are not in touch with their employees, payroll taxes make little or no difference in each paycheck, but being paid $10 an hour which does not meet bills does.  Second: to show that raising taxes on the wealthy also trickles down. They are unwilling to absorb taxes which support our world as we know it, infrastructure, police, schools, fire depts, military, and putting our way of life at risk through decaying roads & bridges along with the under staffed police depts, fire depts, border patrol, security at our air ports and out military readiness.  It has already started with ships being ported, repairs being put off, air shows used for recruiting being cancelled and the list goes on. Walmart is just one of the wealthy many who wants a lifestyle of a  Poverty dirven workforce supporting lifestyles more lavish than we have ever seen in history.
